About Our Farm

My name is Cade Cockburn, and I am 18 years old. I live on a small family farm in Johnston City, IL. My parents and I raise a herd of quality Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats that are primarily registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA). Some of our goats are also registered with the American Goat Society (AGS) and the Nigerian Dairy Goat Association (NDGA). You may also see a few LaMancha Dairy Goats at our farm from time to time. We are an ADGA PLUS herd. We attend close ten or more sanctioned dairy goat shows per year, including the ADGA National Show. We also participate in ADGA linear appraisal program and Dairy Herd Improvement 305 Day Milk Testing. We enjoy breeding towards improving the breed. In addition to the performance programs we participate in with our own animals, both my dad Travis and I are licensed judges with the American Dairy Goat Association and the Nigerian Dairy Goat Association.

We began our "goating" adventure in 2011, when I became deathly sick. I stayed in a St. Louis hospital for 10 days. Now, I had always wanted a few goats for pets, but my parents just never came around to buy me some. Well, when I was at the point the doctors thought I was dying, my dad told me if I would just get better, he would buy me a few goats. Well, the next day I woke up, all perky, feeling much better than the day before. I asked "So.... did you say we were getting goats?" And it has progressed from there! We began doing some research in the hospital on the days I was feeling okay. In our search, we were lead to the Nigerian Dwarf goats. We began with a few unregistered pet quality does. A few days later, we bought four registered does. From there, we learned a lot. We learned some things the hard way, and some the easy way.

We now strive for breed improvement. Our main goal is to produce a structurally correct animal that will excel in the show ring, but do also strive to produce productive animals. Colorful animals with blue eyes, moonspots, etc. are not important to us. Correct conformation and high production are what we strive for, not flashy coloring.

We have came a long way from our humble beginnings of five pet quality goats. Our breeding program is recognized nationally for the quality, correct, and productive animals we produce. We have bred multiple animals who have finished their championships, placed high at the national shows, and appraised at 90 or above. In 2021, Cade’s Lil’ Farm did extremely well at the ADGA National Show. We won 3rd place dairy herd in addition to NATIONAL BEST UDDER!

Our goal is to produce a long, feminine, dairy animal that is extremely correct in the mammary system.

We offer goats for sale every year. Be sure to check the Breeding Plans and For Sale pages to see what is currently available.

Cade's Lil' Farm was the first in the state of Illinois that became licensed to sell raw milk for human consumption. Contact us if you'd like to buy some of our milk!

We give God all of the glory for the things we have accomplished with our little herd. We could not have made it this far without Him.

Cade's Lil' Farm is also on Facebook! We update it regularly with show results and other things going on here at the farm. Don't forget to stop in and hit "Like" !!!!
